2025 NFL Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars Season Outlook, Schedule & Prediction
2025 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS SEASON PREVIEW
The Jacksonville Jaguars were among the biggest disappointments of the year in 2024. The team started out 0-4 before defeating the Indianapolis Colts, which started a stretch of two wins in three games. From there, Jacksonville fell to 2-10 with five losses in a row. The Jaguars now have a new head coach in Liam Coen to lead the way.
OFFENSE
There might not be a quarterback with more pressure right now than Trevor Lawrence.
After a playoff win in 2023 and a huge contract extension, Lawrence has yet to produce for the Jaguars. In 2023, Jacksonville began 8-3 but have lost 18 of 23 games since. Now, it is up to Coen to turn around the fortunes in Jacksonville.
To help Lawrence, the Jaguars have added wide receivers in each of the last two years. It began with Brian Thomas Jr. in 2024, who turned into a No. 1 receiver. This year, Jacksonville traded up to the second-overall pick to land Travis Hunter.
As good as the receivers are, it does not matter if Lawrence does not have the time to throw. The Jaguars added two linemen along the interior in Robert Hainsley and Patrick Mekari. Ezra Cleveland is one returning starter on the line. At tackle, Anton Harrison needs to take the next step after struggling early on.
The ground game will be interesting this year. Travis Etienne is still slated as the starter but Tank Bigsby has been stealing time as he continues to grow.
DEFENSE
The Jaguars will have the chance to use Hunter on the defensive side of the ball as well but the secondary was not the biggest issue — although it was not a strength.
Josh Allen and Travon Walker combined for 18.5 sacks last season but there was no threat beyond that. The Jaguars were unable to get to the quarterback consistently last season. For reference, Maason Smith was third on the team in sacks with three.
On the interior, the Jaguars passed on potential talent in Mason Graham. This means Jacksonville will start Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton.
The secondary is led by the cornerbacks. Caleb Ransaw has the chance to step up next to Eric Murray, who needs to improve this season. Darnell Savage did not work out as a free agent addition.
In the middle of the defense, Foye Oluokun is one of the most-aggressive tacklers in the league along with star Devin Lloyd.
