2025 NFL Preview: Los Angeles Chargers Season Outlook, Schedule & Prediction

2025 LOS ANGELES CHARGERS SEASON PREVIEW

The Los Angeles Chargers got out of the gate quick with two victories before dropping two straight. An early bye week gave the team a chance to regroup and this led to five wins over the next six games. The Chargers hit a skid, losing three of four, but ended the season with three straight wins to get to 11 wins. The first season under Jim Harbaugh led to a postseason appearance.

OFFENSE

The offense will go as far as Justin Herbert will take it.

Herbert as been paid like a franchise quarterback, and he has looked like one, but has been unable to perform in the postseason. Having a coach and quarterback duo that you believe in is the first step for a franchise to be successful. Now, the Chargers rely on Herbert and Harbaugh.

Herbert will have some impressive skill positions to work with along with a strong offensive line. Up front, the team took a major hit as Rashawn Slater suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for the year. On the other side, Joe Alt will have to step up at tackle. The Chargers also added Mekhi Becton as a major upgrade along the line.

On the outside, Ladd McConkey has turned into a true No. 1 receiver early in his career. Los Angeles also brought back familiar faces with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen as veteran options. The Chargers has put Herbert in a position to succeed with other draft picks such as Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

In the backfield, the Chargers added Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He will step into an extended role right away this season with Najee Harris.

DEFENSE

The Chargers decided to make some difficult decisions this offseason and that included letting Joey Bosa go in free agency.

Bosa struggled with injuries and this led to a decline in production. This means Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu will have to step up. Mack is an all-timer on the edge but is entering his 34-year-old season. Tuipulotu logged 8.5 sacks last season at 23 years old.

The defensive line as a hole will be down a bit. Denzel Perryman will be a key factor against the run with a duo of Daiyan Henley and Junior Colson in the middle of the defense.

In the secondary, the Chargers made some additions to help bolster a position at corner. This includes Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste, who struggled during his career in Washington.

Derwin James continues to be the leader in the secondary with Aloha Gilman.
