2025 Passer Preview, Part 2: NFC North Quarterbacks

As the NFL landscape shifts toward a new era of quarterback play, the 2025 season promises a fascinating mix of established elites, rising stars, aging legends, and system-driven wildcards. This eight-part series breaks down each division’s projected starting quarterbacks, blending statistical output from 2024 with contextual analysis and forward-looking insight.

As a part of this series, each passer will be evaluated based on situation, skill, and projections for what they bring to the table in 2025 for their team. In addition, every QB will be placed in one of the following 5 Tiers:

1. The Big 4
2. Elite
3. Above Replacement
4. Risers/Bridge Guys/Rookies
5. Cellar Dwellers

Part 1 of this “2025 Passer Preview,” was all about the AFC North. Up next it’s the NFC North; another extremely competitive division with 4 intriguing storylines at QB.

JORDAN LOVE — GREEN BAY PACKERS

2024 STATS:
Age: 26 | Exp: 5 | CMP: 268 | ATT: 425 | YDS: 3,389 | TD: 25 | INT: 11 | RTG: 96.7 | Rush Yds: 83 | Rush TDs: 1

QB Tier 2: Elite
2025 Projection: Top 8 QB

Love is coming off an underwhelming 2024 campaign in which he was limited with nagging lower body injuries. Despite the inhibitions, Love dispayed many of the dynamic traits that had many projecting his leap into the upper eschelon of QBs. With a quick release, great pocket awareness, and the arm talent to layer in throws behind coverages and hit hole shots up the seam, Love has all the abilities of a superstar. For this season, the young gunslinger looks to establish himself as that kind of player for a Packers team with championship aspirations.

JARED GOFF – DETROIT LIONS

2024 STATS:
Age: 30 | Exp: 9 | CMP: 390 | ATT: 539 | YDS: 4,629 | TD: 37 | INT: 12 | RTG: 111.8 | Rush Yds: 56 | Rush TDs: 0

QB Tier 3: Above Replacement
2025 Projection: Borderline Top 12 QB

Jared Goff is the ultimate game-managing pocket passer in today’s NFL. He’s an elite processor and he delivers the ball with timing and accuracy, something that was invaluable for former OC Ben Johnson’s scheme. New playcaller John Morton will employ a similar style, which should continue to benefit Goff, even if the elite efficiency of Johnson’s offense may have gone with him to Chicago. Still, Goff has the experience and veteran savvy to handle the change and remain one of the more consistent passers in football.

CALEB WILLIAMS — CHICAGO BEARS

2024 STATS:
Age: 23 Exp: 1 CMP: 351 ATT: 562 YDS: 3,541 TD: 20 INT: 6 RTG: 87.8 Rush Yds: 489 Rush TDs: 0

QB Tier 4: Riser
2025 Projection: Pro-Bowl caliber season

If his first action of the Preseason is any indication, Caleb Williams may be about to take the league by storm in 2025. Last year’s 1st overall pick gets the benefit of playing with Ben Johnson as his head coach and offensive playcaller now, which should give Williams a lot more “easy button” throws and showcase his arm talent from the pocket more regularly. When things break down, Williams should still be able to utilize the mobility and off-schedule playmaking abilities that made him a special prospect. Expect big things from the 2nd-year passer.

JJ MCCARTHY — MINNESOTA VIKINGS

2024 STATS:
N/A (Missed all of 2024 with a preseason meniscus injury that ended his Rookie season before it began)

QB Tier 4: Rookie
2025 Projection: Efficient system passer

It seems like we’ll finally get to see McCarthy on Sundays now that he is healthy from his meniscus injury and Vikings 2024 starter Sam Darnold is in Seattle. McCarthy projected as a game-managing passer with plus mobility and arm talent, and he’ll absolutely get a chance to showcase that ability in HC Kevin O’Connell’s system. With the weapons he has on the outside and the QB-friendly scheme around him, McCarthy is set up for success in his first yar as a starter.
