The 2025 NFL season is just weeks away and that means it is fantasy football season.
The running back position has become one of the most important in leagues. The position has become deep but there is nothing better than a top-flight running back to lead your team each week.
Below, check out the Top 10 backs this season along with other rankings.
Top 10 Running Backs
- Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons: Robinson has the highest upside of any running back this season. He is widely regarded as the universal No. 2 pick in drafts. Robinson can be a workhorse while also catching the ball out of the backfield. Do not be surprised to see Robinson in the end zone 20 times this season. He is the clear-cut RB1 this season.
- Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions: The major question mark is whether Gibbs’ production will be down with a new change of offensive coordinator. The guess is no. Gibbs looks as solid as ever. Last season, he rushed for 1,400+ yards and 14 touchdowns. Even with the Lions using two backs, it is clear that Gibbs is the No. 1 option.
- Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles: Do not be afraid of a drop off from last year’s RB1. Barkley is the workhorse in Philadelphia and rarely leaves the field. The Eagles are going to ride Barkley again. If healthy, Barkley is a top three back due to volume alone. Behind that offensive line, he will have a chance to repeat his production.
- Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers: McCaffrey had a down year that began with an injury in 2024. That means he is due for a breakout season once again. That is the typical cycle. Do not be afraid of his injury history. McCaffrey is among the ranks of the elite when he is on the field. With Deebo Samuel gone and Brandon Aiyuk hurt, there will be plenty of touches for McCaffrey.
- Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders: Jeanty looks like the next breakout rookie in the NFL. The Raiders will ride the ground game this season with their shiny first-year back. Jeanty’s physical tools and speed will translate well to the NFL. He is another volume back who can pile up numbers.
- De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins: Achane is an interesting option. While he is a first-round fantasy back, his skillset is made for PPR. Achane has not looked like a prototypical running back due to his size. Instead, he has acted as a receiver, closing in on 80 catches last season. This took a major hit when Tua has been injured, making his value based on health. Nonetheless, Achane is one of the top backs heading into the season.
- Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts: Taylor is another back that needs to remain on the field. This has been a problem in recent years. Daniel Jones was recently named the starting quarterback. This means the Colts will rely on Taylor more than ever. This could be another season of 250+ touches.
- Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens: Henry signed an extension this season. The fit was a perfect one in Baltimore as the Ravens had the top rushing attack in football. Despite his age, Henry looks as good as ever.
- Josh Jacobs, Green Bay Packers: Jacobs is the clear No. 1 back in Green Bay. He is a volume back that can carry an offense when he is on a roll. The fit was a good one in Green Bay in his first season. In 2025, it should only improve.
- Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals: Brown took over as the starting back last season and was used in many ways. Now, it is clearly his job heading into the season. Brown can gain yards on the ground while also being an effective back. There are many weapons in the Bengals’ offense but Brown will get his fair share of touches this season.
