Rome Odunze Was Asked The Wildest Question Yesterday
It’s the preseason in the NFL, I get it. In these first three weeks of the year, we are all trying to find our footing. The players are trying to shake off the rust of a long off-season, and get back into football form. The fans are trying to become re-acclimated with the grooves on their couches, as they prepare for another season of weekly football marathons.
HELL: even the commentators are working out the kinks up in the booth, as shown by this outrageous question that Stacey Dales asked Bears’ WR Rome Odunze during a sideline interview….

“Rome, work with me on this one. Somebody on your staff told me that if you and DJ had a baby, it would be Luther Burden.”
I…..I don’t think I’ve ever heard a crazier saying come from a commentator in a booth than I did while watching this game. Sure, John Madden used to say some wild stuff back in the day. But I’m pretty sure he never made a comparison that involved two teammates procreating. That just seems like something you’d keep off the airwaves, if you know what I mean?
Rome though, who was the 9th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, was a professional in the moment. Sure, he did laugh like any normal human would do. But in his defense…..wouldn’t you? If you were so used to being asked about routes and schemes and whatnot…..wouldn’t you crack up if a reporter talked about you and your teammate giving birth to another teammate?
If it was me, I sure as hell would! That is hilarious!
To be fair though, I get the comparison she was trying to make. I get that Stacey Dales was trying to say that Luther Burden possesses a lot of the same skill-sets that both Odunze and DJ Moore have. But her wording, in a day and age where the internet immortalizes mistakes? That……that’s just rough.
Luther Burden, for the record, finished his first preseason game with two receptions for 29 yards. But I don’t think it had anything to do with his “parents,” Rome and DJ.
In the end though, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
