The Most Exciting Players from Week 1 of the Preseason

NFL Preseason Week 1 always brings with it some exciting storylines after players get their first action of the year, even if limited. It’s no different this year, with long anticipated debuts and new-look squads hitting the field in actual NFL stadiums for the first time.

With that in mind, here are 5 players that stood out in the action from the weekend.

TREVEYON HENDERSON | RUNNING BACK | NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

The former Buckeye was lauded all offseason for his elite explosiveness and playmaking ability from anywhere on the field, and it didn’t take long for him to do just that! Henderson took the opening kickoff the distance in a blur of a 100-yard scamper, leaving the poor Commanders’ kick coverage unit in his wake. He looked quick and decisive out of the backfield as well with an 18-yard burst in his limited duties on Friday. If he can be an Easy Button-like playmaker for New England, this offense will be a lot more interesting in 2025.

TANNER MCKEE | QUARTERBACK | PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

McKee may have just established himself as an elite backup QB with the potential for more after a flawless performance with the 2nd team for a deep Eagles squad positioning for a title defense. In Philly’s case, it’s essential to have a plus passer behind Jalen Hurts to keep things afloat in case the Super Bowl MVP misses any time. The 3rd-year passer went 20 for 25 with 252 yds and 3 total TDs, spreading the ball around and looking in complete control.

JUSTIN FIELDS | QUARTERBACK | NEW YORK JETS

The Jets are hoping to have stolen a franchise QB in an unlikely way this offseason, and Justin Fields’ first outing was very promising. He looked calm and collected as a passer, navigating the pocket and hitting open receivers on the Jets’ opening drive before scrambling out of a collapsing pocket for a 13-yd TD. Jets fans will hope to see more, but it’s a good start for the murcurial signal caller in what could be his swan song as a starter.

TETAIROA MCMILLAN | WIDE RECEIVER | CAROLINA PANTHERS

A Panthers WR winning 1-on-1 and rewarding his QB down the field? A foreign concept in Bryce Young’s first 2 seasons, but not anymore. The 8th overall pick from this last April created separation in the short and intermediate areas of the field, and then topped it off with a fantastic contested 30-yard over-the-shoulder snag on a bucket drop from Young. There are still a lot of questions for this team, but the early returns on that connection are very exciting.

CAM LITTLE | KICKER | JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Nailing a 70-yard Field Goal with room to spare in the dense Jacksonville night air to close out the 1st half? No problem for Cam Little. The 2nd-year kicker just set the bar for a season that will see him very active for a Jaguars team hoping to score a lot of points with Head Coach Liam Coen bringing his explosive offense to Duval County. It was truly mesmerizing to watch, and Little hopes to establish himself as a premier kicker in the league this season.
